On Tuesday evening, the first ever Big Apple Teachers of the Year Award ceremony took place at Gracie Mansion in Manhattan. It’s the first citywide recognition program open to all full-time teachers in public schools across New York City. More than 2,000 nominations were received from students, families, and community members.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Chancellor of NYC Department of Education, Dennis Walcott, were there to announce the 11 winners, and STATE rewarded each one with a new Durham bag.
“Great teachers are a school’s most valuable asset, and we must recognize their skills and the impact they have on our students - even beyond the classroom,” said Mayor Bloomberg.
Congratulations to these incredible teachers who spend every day investing their time and energy in the future of our kids. We are proud to have your back!
